Examples of some hand made goods includes dolls made of fibers known in Ecuador as toquilla straw, marzipan molded into a variety of forms, figurines of balsa wood and vegetable ivory, clothing woodcarvings, rugs, Indian weavings, ceramics, leather goods furniture and ornamental pottery. has very high quality of headgear and due to major importation in the past few decades to Panama, the nickname has stuck, "Panama Hats". The hats are produced from Woven bleached strips of fiber from leaves of the iraca plant which has been named locally toquilla straw, The hats are lightly woven affording them to be exceptionally breathable and comfortable in summer and in hot tropical climate. After Panama, the main importers of these hats are the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico and Japan. store. |  | Vegetable Ivory | | Tagua, is the hard dried inner layers of the coconut of the ivory palm (Phytelephas aequatorialis). The first exports of tagua as vegetable ivory began in 1865 with an export order to Germany. The Designers found this material most practical to make very hard yet attractive buttons for the highest-fashion clothes. Today, the fashion industry has turned this material into trinkets and charms, brooches, toys,
figurines, chess pieces, cane handles and many other products. Tagua, is shipped all year round in the form of button blanks which are sorted by size and bagged up in 45 to 80 kilograms and sent primarily to the United States, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan and South Korea.
