| The Hosteria Del Mar on the opposite end of the street from Bambu is bad news. A group of us woke up in the morning on the day we were leaving only to find the manager, a guy with a hairlip named Paulo (owner´s son?), rummaging through our belongings. He had used a master key to get into our room while we slept and he manufactured some crazy story of why he was there. He rushed us out of our room, checked us out in a rush and later did my companions find that their cameras had been stolen from their bags and one girl was missing a small purse she had. Other travellers and a few of the locals I have met since then told me that the place has a reputation for theft and that this was by no means the first time they had heard stories about this guy breaking into rooms and either watching girls sleep or stealing. It´s the last hostel on the south end of the beach. I´ve been looking for warnings on-line, but haven´t found any and I thought somebody should say something. Don´t stay here at any cost, but if for some reason you do, bring your own lock and NEVER leave anything of value in your room there. There are a myriad of other places that people rave about. I suggest you take one of those. |
